PASSIVE SOLAR HOME PLANS
First and second floor plans. The garage area may be converted into a studio/office area or a second bedroom suite.
Note the "solar room" with Trombe wall, the major passive solar heat collecting element.
From Wikipedia: "A Trombe wall is a sun-facing wall built from material that can act as a thermal mass (such as stone, concrete, adobe or water tanks), combined with an air space, insulated glazing and vents to form a large solar thermal collector."
The structural system is a type of structural insulated panel. These panels have a 4" or 5" EPS (expanded polystyrene) core with 1½" sprayed on concrete or plaster mix each side, giving a panel thickness of approximately 8". These panels are stronger, more durable, and considerably more energy efficient than wood or steel stick framing methods and as an added benefit they reduce construction time.
